Our Internship Experience
Written By: Syeda Samantha & Allen Greene
Have you ever applied for an internship but wasn’t sure on how it would go? How you could possibly fit in, especially if it’s your first time? Allen and I applied for the ISP (Industry Scholars Program) during our school year and had no idea how it would go at first. Rest assured, you’re not alone. Being assigned to be an intern at Young Men Strong, Inc. we definitely were a bit confused at first but our overseers and mentors, Keith and Ms. Howard helped ease us in and breeze through our experience working online. Both of us working as assistant website developers for Young Men Strong, Inc we learned to cooperate and work together to create a finishing piece, working on the functionality, aesthetics, and style of the page. We suggested ideas, asked questions, listened to others’ proposals, and put all of our efforts into this website. The website you see in front of you is a result of hours of hard work from us and the Overseers. It was hard sometimes but overall the workload was reasonable. The work was distributed among us evenly for the duration of our Spring semester which allowed us time for school and for ourselves as well. We were amongst a group of nearly 20 other students and each of us was grouped into projects within YOUNG MEN STRONG, INC. and THOUGHTS MAGAZINE, Multimedia & Events, LLC that were aligned with our preferred field of choice. Some of the student projects were web development, social media, technical, digital marketing, advertisement, Journalism, Administrative Assistant, Photography, Videographer, etc. This is an internship that Allen and I truly valued and appreciated. If we had the opportunity we would definitely work for this organization again, but since we are getting ready for college that is not likely, nonetheless, we both had a wonderful experience and learned enough information to take with us out into the real world. We sincerely thank Ms. Howard for the opportunity to be a part and wish our contribution was helpful.
Sincerely, Syeda & Allen
